I've used this to create several home movies and DVDs and I was pleased. I started out with Windows Movie Maker and found I had no way to create a DVD. I believe there are free tools out there to do so now, but for my $99 I feel like I've already gotten a lot of good use out of it. It's polished and professional.
Vegas is a great alternative to Windows Movie Maker with professional quality editing. The price tag is not much compared with other professional software. The interface is easy to use when you're doing general editing, but when you're trying to create advanced effects it's still not too difficult to figure out. Sometimes it's a bit weird with avis, but other than that I've had no problems.
