by far the best game management and online store/retailer out there. only as
of the past 2 years though, i first made my steam account in 2005, and it was
totally useless.
it slowed my machine to a crawl and nothing really worked.
now its become something i cant really live without, the patch system,
content delivery and speed, and ingame overlay are all brilliant.
the UI is a little dull, but it works and is skinnable.
the ability to add in non-steam games is great too.
Steam is what all companies should aspire to be running. Essentially a
distrubution method with copy-protection that people WANT to use.
See, Valve could have stopped at the anti-cheat, anti-piracy stage of things,
but instead took the wise route and fleshed it out into a full-blown community,
much akin to having an "Xbox Live" on PCs.
The deals on games Steam has are for the most part cheaper than elsewhere,
however there are frequently sales where games are sold for frankly rediculously
low cost.
Suprisingly, the app uses up very little system resources. However for a
gaming tool, I guess you kind of need that.
Interface is basically a browser inside of a flashy (customisable) box, so
you can't mark it down if the internet looks wrong.
I installed it so I could play a game, whose name I can't even remember
anymore. I've since uninstalled it. It's good, though. I just don't play that
much anymore.
