After all, this software has evolved a lot. The adware mentioned by a previous reviewer can easily be unselected during the installation process, and its database is the largest one I know, as it is filled by its users. Most popular applications have their own websites linked there, too, and everyone can contribute.
One more positive thing: The developer answers very fast to bug reports. SUMo saves a lot of time if you have a bunch of applications installed. (However, you shouldn't use the automatic search function as it basically finds even system apps which can't really be upgraded manually. I used Drag-and-Drop to fill my list. :-))
Highly recommended, combined with DriverMax (for drivers).
Found more software than Software.Informer, found less updates and false positive updates
Its a pretty complete update program that checks online to update your current software. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer direct links to downloads and when you are originally installing you have the 'option' to install Relevant Knowledge which ESET as well as other virus scanners consider it to be malware, but you can always opt out from installing it.
It does its job.
ADWARE!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
when updating SUMo today, ESET Smart Security warns me that it contains Adware.Agent.NMA
I hate adware and I hate even more free programs that installs adware without your consent, so that's it : no more SUMo for me
I actually found that FileHippo Update Checker does a better job. Only cons is that it only check updates for sofware featured on their web site, but that's more than enough for my needs.
Now this program, as hard as it tries to do right with intentions, I found the program finding stuff (drivers) I could not get to.
The thought is nice, but more needs to be done as an interface from this program to the download site.
Let me control what is installed, along with where and with which account, so fine by my standards
Checks your version number against other users, but doesn't give any way to update besides an online search of the program name and version number. Often, the current version it reports doesn't match what's available from the program's website, even including betas and nightly builds. Of questionable use.
