A messenger by George Vulov

TerraIM is a free, lightweight, cross-platform AOL Instant Messenger client, supporting most standard features of AIM's OSCAR protocol. One notable exception is the lack of Direct Connect support, which TerraIM compensates for with its file sending and download manager. Some features include offline messaging, availability sorting, skinning, tabbed windows, logging, aliases for buddies and remote control. Due to the client's small size (~600KB) and lack of installation, it is readily placed on a flash drive or floppy disk for remote use. Settings, by default, are stored in the registry -- but alternatively can be stored in a config file. TerraIM is written in C++, using the wxWidgets libraries.

GTALK can do the same stuff now... so wtf?
The GUI Sucks...
Brilliant for people who want a really low-key, lightweight AIM client with no ads and no garbage. Recommended for fans of the old mainline AIM software up until version 4 or so. Default skin is pretty lousy, though.
probably the best AIM client ever... no install, no frills... awesome
