The Bat! is an e-mail power house. With an extensible interface and filtering and template systems that boast depth beyond precedent, it can do anything you will it to. . . if you're willing to invest the time into configuring it.
I love fiddling with TB!, but it reduces me useless--I can't overcome my urge to tweak and fiddle.
Last time I checked, IMAP support was abysmal, while POP3 was flawless. This may have changed -- but if you plan on using IMAP primarily, be careful.
There are two ongoing problems with TB!--the documentation is horrible. It always has been. I expect it always will be. Also, the versioning is chaotic. Some times the major version (e.g. 4.x) will be free, while 4.1 will be a paid upgrade . . . you never know. I don't believe the developers have a clear plan. They just keep going, bit by bit, checking things off the feature/bug lists -- every now and then changing version numbers as they fancy.
Fortunately, it is supported by an incredibly loyal, knowledgeable mailing list community -- you'll want to be a part of it to get the most out of TheBat!.
