One of the better MMOs. Graphics are beautiful and I really like some of the music. The community is probably the best I've found in a modern MMO. The average ADHD WoW kiddie isn't going to enjoy this -- there aren't really the epeen waving opportunities for them, which makes it a nicer place for the grown ups amongst us.

I still play WoW, but LotRO makes a great change of pace and environment.

From closed beta through today, the greatest thing this game has.. free updates.
From festivals and quests that are frivolous to new content with serious enemies, the free updates make this game superior to anything else out there.

While each gamer wants something different from a game, there can be no one mmo fits all statement, this game does lean towards the casual gamer.

PVP in the PVMP format works ok, but many get upset and quit on creep side.

Classes are designed well, many skills allow them to be self sufficient through most of the game. There really is no alpha group configuration that you need to get through harder content (as seen in many years of EQ).

End Content lacks. I believe this will never change until Mordor is opened. Why? Well how much of the big evil was around in the books? They have to create monsters or use ones that were hinted about in the book without breaking lore, for instance the Watcher fight, or Hele/Rift stuff.

Leveling in this game is great. No repetitive grinding mobs, 90% of your xp will easily come from quests, and with the redux on bree area, you can go down seperate quest lines to level now. Leans towards mostly solo to 3 person quest content to get you to the high levels. No 8 hour camps for your damage augs, or 5 week camps for your halfling mask in this game, most equipment is from quest or crafting, few from drops.

Crafting is ~, not great, not terrible. You will rarely ever be able to keep up your crafting with your level, meaning you won't make anything you will use. But, as far as passing down to your alts, once you crit items, they far exceed any other drop or quest reward.

Socially as others have said, people are great. In beta, there was rarely a mention of QQ and other wow junk, and slowly that has crept in, but it is still far from the pit of gaming idiots that WoW is.

Pricing is great especially since the "share your founder pricing with friends" the game is 9.99 for Lotro+Moria (I payed 40+30 2 times..) then a 9.99 monthly from founder.

EQ had its place, and by far the critical timing on CCH/mezzing/nuking for some pretty spetacular fights, pop, god, etc is not matched in LOTRO, yet here I play lotro instead of eq.

I've played over 400 hours of this game but have come to hate it for a few reasons. First, though, I'll go over its good points. It has beautiful graphics, and the Lord of the Rings lore is quite well done. Visiting Tom Bombadil's house in the Old Forest is quite an experience, for example. The player base is friendly and mature, and very helpful to new players. The player music system is a neat feature and is a nice distraction. However, the main problem is that the game does not venture very far from the usual MMORPG gameplay mechanics laid down by Everquest and WOW. In the end, you travel to a new area an do the same kinds of quests over again: kill a dozen boars, find my lost shield, fetch this or that. LOTRO does have a system of epic story arcs, but these are often difficult to find groups for and are mostly designed for the level 50+ players. The majority of quests are still the usual grind for XP, and while recent changes have alleviated this somewhat, it still takes a long time to reach max level. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but unless you are in a good guild, it is difficult to find groups for mid-level characters. Furthermore, travel is still a huge obstacle. While it maintains the feeling of a large online world, it more often than not serves as an obstacle for finding groups and makes the game frustrating. Finally, the classes are not very well designed in my opinion. They are unbalanced, and do not conform well to the traditional fantasy archetypes which you would expect in LOTR. For example, a loremaster is not really a wizard as you would expect, and the game never really had a decent magic-user class until the Mines of Moria expansion. The game is polished and has definitely improved over the years, it still is hard to see it as anything but a LOTR-themed WOW clone. If you are frustrated with WOW's lack of story, grind, and frustratingly arbitrary restrictions, you'll just find more of the same here.

2nd Best MMORPG ever (WoW is of course the 1st).
I love the setting, Middle Earth is beautiful and also drawn exactly as described. For the subscription is needed the payment of a small monthly fee (about 12€) but they is also the great option to make a single payment for a lifetime subscription (219€ is the current price).
Really worth the money it asks.

If youre a more mature player then this game will apeal to you.It has a pretty sedate levelling speed, spectacular graphics and a vast play area and best of all few "I'm leet and your a nuub" type prepubecent players.
Even if you havn't read the books you can really appriciate the depth and care that has gone into writing this MMO and its style of player vs player is unique in the current crop of games.
