I kind of wish that there were fewer features with Trillian Astra because I'm
drowning in all of the types of connections it offers. It's nice to have IRC,
Gtalk, Gmail and AIM all in one application, but it's difficult to juggle
between them.
By far, the best multi-protocol chat client I have used. Especially, when
using Trillian Astra, the new public beta of the old program, the chat client is
taken to another level, including bundling together as a music player, and rss
feed with plugins. The skins for the program make it fully customizable. The
only con I have found is that The "Pro" liscense costs $20 for a
minimal amount of features.
Trillian Astra is a nice IM program. Offering support to all major IM
services like AIM, WLM, Yahoo, ICQ and GTalk, plus Twitter and Facebook chat,
it's a good software to stay connected with friends and business partners.
It offers some interesting unique features, like the instant lookup on
Wikipedia by hovering words in text, quick switch of font styles for important
messages and draw mode (fun thing I really missed since I gave up on WLM two
years ago). The history log is just fantastic, offering way more options than I
could ask for, I really felt in love with it. On top of all that, I found
Trillian Astra to be very light on system resources, using less memory than
Pidgin or Digsby.
Despite all this nice features, I wouldn't recommend this program to
anyone. Its new interface (named Cordonata) is hideous and the old interface
isn't functional at all. Both of them are ugly and feel like it wasn't
well-thought. I couldn't figure out how to turn off the buzzer, too - an
annoying WLM feature abused by some people. The file transfer have bugs (none of
my sent files showed as really sent, always appearing stuck at some random
percentage - my contacts were receiving the files ok, but I could never know).
The way Trillian alerts for new tweets is just ridiculous, using tiny
notification boxes that whether slows your computer down as hell (when receiving
more than 5 at the same time) or fails to notify you from all updates. It’s hard
to find your way to retweet and follow links, too. The interface isn’t
intuitive at all.
Weighting down the pros and cons, though it’s a good program, I can’t see
myself using it any longer. My guess is that this is a program designed with
Windows Live Messenger users in mind, and this ones will be totally satisfied
with Trillian. For the ones who uses Pidgin or Digsby, Trillian will feel like a
step backwards.
I'm using the free version. It's a bit bloated but at least the
advertisements (at the top of many windows are text based and very
unobrtusive).
I've used Trillian PRO for years and won't be paying to upgrade.. but I do
enjoy this newest free version (even if it is a bit slower due to eye candy
overload).
Using the paid version of Trillian Astra. Seems decent. Has some work needed
but really like where this could be going. Worth the money thus far for the most
part. Once some of the issues are worked out will be even better.
Great all-in-one messenger! Trillian Astra is so great.
Twitter, Facebook, and so many IM's services all in it!
And still low on resources. And the UI is very sexy.

Suggest using Digsby which doesnt charge you for the extra features that Trillian does.
Converted from MSN and I have to say it's quite nice. Has some great features.
The most awesome multi-protocol IM Client i've ever used.Trillian all the way!!

an all in one IM & Social network clint.
I think they've overdone it with the fancy interface in Astra, but since you can switch back to the previous interface it's all good.

Been using it for years, it's so good. Just gotta fix a couple of bugs now, and then Astra will be even greater.

Multiprotocol, easy to use, simple. Now I switched to Astra and I thing I will stay with Astra. King is dead, long live the King.
