Very good editor for a power user. I used to use it until I switched to editpadPro, which I now prefer for a number of reasons and imho offers better overall value (for me anyway).

UltraEdit also is very slow starting and shutting down compared to any other editor I've used.

Summary - a good editor but there are much better values for most users.

I used UE a couple years ago because of the option to edit by columns rather than lines. Now I cannot find this option anymore :(

If you've already got a favourite editor then UE takes some getting used to but the most versatile and powerful editor I've used. I'm not one to spend money where there are good free alternatives but I bought 2 copies, Home and Work PC (they actually queried my second purchase advising me the license covered both but I paid up because the work PC is used by someone else most of the time).
There's also a time limited free trial.

Hi folks, this is a bit of an advertisement, but I thought in this case it would be ok. Anyhow, please let me know if you disagree :-)

Bits du Jour is offering UltraEdit, UltraCompare, and UltraSentry today (9/18/09) for $49.95, which is something like 65% off. We worked hard to get them on board, and are extremely excited. Anyhow, here's the link:

This is a great little app, I really love the colour coding on it, and the great thing that this does so well, is the FTP implementation. Which allows me to work on all my files on my remote server, and then I Ctrl + S to save, it automatically uploads it to the site and is live =]
    Good times.

It's the one application that really really makes me stick with windows i guess. This is my multi purpose text editor. CSS, PHP, HTML, Text, Java, JSP, Perl, you name it.

Used UE for 7-8 years and I can honestly say that it is one of my favorite applications.
Working on CSS/HTML code or dealing with large csv files with 100K lines or more, UE is my favored tool.

I hate this text editor, I can't understand why people don't try notepad++ or notepad2,or the greatest VIM.

Its a very great editor, and I am looking really forward to the next version. The current version can edit whole columns, and opening/saving files from ftp/ftps/sftp/scp servers. It's a must have for me.
