Upsmon

UPSMon (Uninterpretable Power Supply Monitor) is a utility used in combination with a battery back up system. Should the grid or local power become unreliable or completely unavailable, the power supply battery will automatically intervene and begin powering the connected equipment. UPSMon will manage what happens next. How long should the equipment remain powered. Computer shutdown. Records events that occur. Dispatches emails and calls pagers.

  I've tried the email messaging service, but it was really bad. create an never ending error message. tho I haven't tried it in a long time. Otherwise it runs silently and it does shut your computer down after so long. :D
