Valve Hammer Editor, formerly known as Worldcraft and now commonly called Hammer, is Valve Software's map creation program for their first-person shooter computer game Half-Life and for all of its mods, sequels, and expansions, as well as all games using the Source engine.

    There's really no alternative for Source mapping, but Hammer has a lot of documentation to make mapping easy. The learning curve is pretty steep, but its pretty powerful once you learn it. Aside from some odd crashing and cryptic errors, it's a great tool.

    This is used to create maps for Source games, it is really user-friendly, plus doesn't take up much space.
