There's really no alternative for Source mapping, but Hammer has a lot of documentation to make mapping easy. The learning curve is pretty steep, but its pretty powerful once you learn it. Aside from some odd crashing and cryptic errors, it's a great tool.
Forgot to mention that there are many tutorials.
This is used to create maps for Source games, it is really user-friendly, plus doesn't take up much space.
