This is he biggest rival for Windows Media Player Classic.
VLC can open every video file, have many functions (some very interesting - like streaming), works very quick. In this app is possibility to read a lot of file info, it's very useful.
It plays anything, my backup for when Windows Media Center doesn't work with certain files, but the interface is too simple for everyday use.
probably the best media player out there, and best of all... it's free! it can play pretty much anything so there is no need to have multiple players installed. User interface is a bit boring, though greatly improved in the last version/s

All exceptionally good but some annoying little bugs and usability problems. A great replacement fro the pretty much defunct Media Player Classic.
The only reason you use this app is because it plays every media file known to man! Where it lacks on the features other media players have it makes up by being able to play all media!

Sure it's the best player for playing any type of file but the eye candy isn't that good, and GOM player has a few more useful features.
