The Swiss knife of Media players...loaded with options..no need to install any third party codecs. Plays almost any format thrown at it. The skins could be a bit better.
An excellent video player. With some nice features. Plays more video types than Windows media player.
Plays pretty much every video format known to man. Open Source & free. Great piece of software. Better than Quicktime Player. Though lately I've also been using Movist quite a bit. Has got a more Mac-like interface with good quality video & audio. Though VLC has more features. Both are worth checking out.
It's my first choice in non-Windows environment.
it's my primary video player in Mac OS. feels better than QuickTime in File Type compatibility. but in VLC, I can't see my mother language (Sinhalese) subtitles. except that, all other features are superb

Nicly done, well deserved!
The best media player ever... :D I downloaded it because I needed a player which eats .mkv files but it beats everything else.
It's my best 1080p player!
I've not looked for alternative, because VLC just works. I mainly play avi and mkv videos on my laptop/desktop machine. I rarely need VLC streaming features, but when I do, VLC handles the task without too much hassle. Only feature I find my self missing, would be support for DLNA-server to make VLC coop with Playstation 3.
great for .flv videos and avi. super lightweight and fast application.
I hate the interface, but it just plays it all...
this one is able to play whatever you want, I hadn´t seen any file that can´t be played in VLC :)
