VLC Player is the only one that has consistently worked for all the video formats I have ever downloaded on the internet. If it doesn't work in VLC then the file just ain't gonna work. This is a must have program on your mac.
The interface is quite ugly but still it's the most stable and reliable player I've ever seen.

This free program available on almost all platforms (haven't checked for all) allows you to read about any kind of video without having to install codecs! It can even read DVDs!

The most flexible media player I have even encountered. Plays almost any format and even damaged files. Interface could be a little prettier, but it makes up for it in compatibility and streaming.
