I use it all the time and keep it up-to-date, but it has never caught
anything. But then, I use good antivirus software too. Because it is from
Microsoft, it might look where others don't or can't....
I don't think it's bad, but I personally NEVER witnessed it catching a virus
or malware (I use ESET all the time in the background)- it think it's far from
being an essential software
Comes built in and only had to change a few default settings so it would stop
annoying me. From my experience, you need other programs to run along side it to
be most effective.
@AdnGeo You don't need to complete it with another anti-spyware/malware
application, you need to completely replace it. Running Windows Defender along
with other similar applications is a great way to cause conflicts and invalidate
your protection altogether!
Considering its bundled with Windows, it beats having nothing at all.
Statistics show, however, that Windows Defender is extremely ineffective against
many of the threats that are common place on the web today.

I actually feel safer with it enabled.

Built-in firewall, limited functionality but it does the basic job.
Not the best app for spyware protection, but it's free and does the job. If you want strong protection for a good price, get spyware doctor.
Need an Antivirus to complete the protection ~
Nice and free, but I also have Superantispyware next to this.
It's great only the new one is better.
Useless
It helps.....I <3 it with Avast!

Good software.
it works ok - but you need to complete it with another anti-spyware/malware in order to get maximum protection.
