not that great unless u put plugins and codecs.
more codecs makes it a good video player though

I think that this is okay.

I don't know why people hated WMP. I mean it's a fully fledged player, capable of playing any media if it has the right codec. But what makes it better than other media players, such as VLC, iTunes, or Real player is it's awesome library system. Coupled with windows search, it's easy to manage your files in it, compared to other media players, say foobar.

The fact that it lets you rip CDs in MP3, for FREE and also easy to use means that you don't have to bother looking for other apps to do the same thing.

Highly recommend if you are too lazy to install other 3rd party software

WMP is great for videos and it's so much better on Win7 now.

I use it only for video playing. For music, it's alright, but it's nothing super. There are much better programs out there for both watching video and listening to music, I use it for video just because it's convenient.

WMP is an OK media player, but it still hangs up, it has small number of fuctions and I think there are many better media players than WMP.

Windows media player is the ultimate player for any user specially the windows 7 version. It plays any movie, any song with enhancements like srs wow effects, equalizer, video settings, you can share media over the network, control your media player over the network, burn music to cd's, amongst others. On wmp12 you have a playlist history so you can get back to the previous playlist(s) and to the last position of the media, this includes any kind of media. The media library could be improved though. The interface is good but a little bloated due to the horrible background. I like the detail of now playing and library modes as separated windows. The performance is good but could be better specially when indexing new music. I can see that wmp12 takes more resources than wmp11. I hope microsoft tweaks it better.

Alternative Sounds Forever.

I love WMP, it has a nice interface, autoplays your favourites, lets you update song tags and find album covers. Some others don't let you do that. I am in fact using it right now.

Good player for movies. I prefer other players for audio.

It plays almost everything if you have the right codecs. I don't use the fancy playlist options since i play most stuff only once.
