Can't agree more with ToyMaker.

But I would use VLC for video, foobar2000 for audio.

By far the worst media player out there. Clumsy performance on big videos, memory consuming, bulky interface, very few and useless options and the lot...plus: have you ever tried burning an audio CD via WMP? The procedure is plain ridiculous.

BSPlayer for video, Winamp for audio and Nero for burning cover all my media reproduction needs.

i really dont see the big deal with this program........ i love it soooo better than itunes, and winamp is just ridiculous..... (plus, my keyboard only responds to the "Play/Pause" "Prev" "Next" "Stop" with this program..... the best in my opinion :P

Windows Media Player is a decent (if not excellent) media player. Since it comes with most versions of Windows, you already have a media player to play your multimedia. While WMP 7, XP(8), 9, and 10 had a rather weak UI, WMP 11 has a killer UI. It is an extremly stable application (something you can't say about iTunes). If you own almost any portable media player except for an iPod, you can be sure it's compatible with WMP. While Microsoft's propitiatory WMA and WMV DRM filled formats are the default, MP3 is an avaliable option for users with WMP 10 and 11. Overall, a great media player.

Very good media playing software. Fits incredibly nicely in with the Vista user interface, very responsive, and overall good software, which is more than I can say for iTunes.

Currently the only thing that works perfect with Vista, its good, the down side it freeze's way too often uses loads of RAM and freezes a song when it feels necessary, overall the player looks better on Vista and WMC is a good addition for it!

Looks good, gets installed alongwith your Windows installation and usually the default media player untill you install VLC or MPC! ;)

The newest version works PERFECTLY for syncing my MP3 player's music. That is all I use it for actually. I never use it to watch or listen to anything, just to manage the music on my Zen. Very very good at doing that.

Low mark because I don't use it's main function... playing of media, simply because it apparently isn't good enough at doing that. At least it isn't better than MPC or VLC

Windows Media Player 11 is the most useful media application by far. I play music and movies with it. You're able to play everything with it unless you don't have the right codecs.

Looks great in Vista, friendly UI, and plays pretty much everything once you install a codec pack.
Freaking fast since it's built into windows.
