Windows media player in Windows 7 rocks. True this hasn't been my favorite player over the years, but its always done its job and isn't bad since it's built into Windows. However what I've seen from the Windows 7 beta, Microsoft has really overhauled this and is including many more codex. Keep an eye out for Windows 7, and if you upgrade you may not be installing a second media player anymore.

Windows Media Player 11 actually is the nicest version of Media Player to date, I use media player for some of my music listening.
It isnt the best player to play files....Winamp and Divx player are the best players out there!!
This is true - WMP isn't the best player- if you want to use it for movies you have to install a lot of codecs, some applications got better sound quality, more functions...
But...
I use WMP11 on Win XP. this application really got nice look, is simple, and (the biggets advantage) got the best Media Library i ever seen!!!. If you got all IDV3tags in your music files, with covers, Library look just great! It's really easy to search files, genres, artist or albums. The most I like ratings :)
TIP: if you got albums covers in IDV3 tags under ,,now playing'' screen click right mouse button on visualization and turn on cover. Now it look really great, isn't it? xD

i used to be a fan of winamp.. but then came windows media player9 and then 10 and now wmp 11.. well i hope it still gets better in windows 7.. =)
Without extra codecs etc it doesn't have as much functionality as VLC, but once you have the extra codecs it can pretty much do anything, and looks stylish to.

It's okay. Windows 7's Windows Media Player 12 will be 10x better than 11.
