WordWeb is a quick and powerful international English thesaurus and dictionary for Windows. It can be used to look up words from almost any program, showing definitions, synonyms and related words. It includes pronunciations and usage examples, and has helpful spelling and sounds-like links.
The thesaurus is integrated into the dictionary; synonyms, as well as detailed categorization of the relationship between words, are shown under the definition. The program shows:
* synonyms
* antonyms
* type of ('daisy' is listed as a type of 'flower')
* types ('play' lists several sub-types of play, including 'passion play')
* parts (under 'forest', listed parts include 'tree' and 'underbrush')
* part of ('bumper' is a part of a 'car', 'truck', or 'machine')
* similar (words that are not synonyms, but nearby; 'big is listed as similar to 'huge')Users can also actively improve the dictionary and thesaurus by submitting errors (such as missing words/phrases/senses) and enhancement requests.
Download.com Editor's review of WordWeb
WordWeb is a handy utility that gives you the definition, synonyms, and antonyms of any given word without requiring you to go online, though it can connect to the Internet for expanded functionality should you want it.
The interface feels like an expanded version of any major word processing app's dictionary function, giving users an instant familiarity--even if they've never used WordWeb. After you type a term into the Lookup dialog box, the word's definition will appear in the interface's top pane, along with tabs that link to various wiki functions.
The bottom pane offers tabs for such items as synonyms, antonyms, and related words. The app's most notable feature is its hot key support; you simply use a hot key combo when the cursor is pointed over any word, and WordWeb will pop up onscreen with all pertinent information.
There are tools for changing the database to one of several English variations, altering the text size, and disabling WordWeb from recognizing offensive terms. The depth and functionality of WordWeb would be worth paying for, but thankfully you don't have to redefine your budget to get it--it's free.

awesomely-amazing!! and wordweb tells me that's not a hyphenated word! :)
I use this at least 200 times ech day. No joke!
Still the Best! If they'd include Urban Dicitionary lookups it'll be perfect.
The best free dicitionary! love the fact it even does vulgar words and flags differences between American & British English.
I Love this program. I use it like a million times a day. It makes essay writing so much easier. And reading e-books. You can just highlight a word, then clich on the wordweb icon and it gives you the deffinition.
Very useful dictionary and thesaurus that are fast to load, easy to access, and free. Thesaurus is nicely organized.
