XChat is for those who like to chat on IRC networks but don't want to hassle
setting up every bit of data! mIRC is for more advanced users but XChat does the
job. Expensive for the fact it lacks a lot of features, I'd rather get mIRC and
pay for more features...
Xchat is an IRC client that just does what it needs to do. It's flexible,
doesn't give a lot of problems and starts up pretty fast.
A great thing is the very professional plugin/scripting interface. The API is
documented well and is driven by the events used in the program (eg. new
message, new highlighted message, join, part, etc.).
In contrast to other IRC clients, you could also write plugins using
C/C++, instead of just scripts.
X-Chat is fast, reliable, and easy to understand even if you're a new user to
IRC. Best of all it can be used on any operating system and still run well. I
always thought that mIRC was cluttered, where as X-Chat is very simple and
straight forward. Scripts wise, mIRC is more customizable I'd say, but if
you've got more advanced scripting knowledge X-Chat works well anyway. After
switching to X-Chat, even with the cons, I find myself unable to go back to
mIRC.
I wasn't too impressed with X-Chat. Finding a free binary of open-source
software was a hassle, which it should NEVER be.
Add to that the clunky interface, some silly inconsistencies in Windows, and
a lack of customizability except from heavy source modification, and... yeah.
Sorry, you lost me on this one, guys.
Easy to use, and works nicely. Love it!
My favorite IRC client. <3
Excellent, easily configurable IRC client.

I don't like xChat. It doesn't have all of the features I'm looking for and it doesn't fit well in my KDE desktop. I prefer Konversation :)

BEST IRC CLIENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best IRC chat program. Simple and easy to use. Much better than mIRC.
If anyone knows where I can get a Python 2.6 plugin for xchat (windows), leave a message with a link on my profile, please. Thanks!
X-Chat is nice, I like it's interface better than mIRC and the others. I highly recommend this IRC client.
Much nicer interface then mirc and most other irc clients.
Love this IRC Client, best in the world :)
