The Xfce window manager manages the placement of application windows on the screen, provides beautiful window decorations, manages workspaces or virtual desktops, and natively supports multiscreen mode. It provides its own compositing manager (from the X.Org Composite extension) for true transparency and shadows. XFCE is really nice environment. Light and flexible.
Depois de muito sofrer com Gnome e KDE, descobri o XFCE e agora sou feliz. Sabe-se lá o porquê, mas foi o único que se adaptou bem à minha máquina, principalmente no que diz respeito às configurações de vídeo. Viva o XFCE!!!
Simple and lightweight. Great for older/lower power machines and netbooks. Could use a little more flexibility for the desktop effects.
My personal favorite window manager. XFCE got me using Linux fulltime. Absolutely love it.
It's lightweight, feature rich (enough for me anyway) and just very nifty. Compared to other WM's, to me, XFCE wins by a long shot.
XFCE is surely one of the fastest interfaces a computer can have.
I have taking a shining to Xubuntu / XFCE from Ubuntu / Metacity because it's faster, and lets me bash it into a unified sort of dock look without running any non-WM based dock software.
I have alpha-compositing on, and it does occasionally crash on my Inspiron 1525 with the windows loosing their titlebars, borders and buttons so I press my console shortcut and type xfwm4 to run it again.
Maybe I will make a lightweight distribution some day.
I recently switched from KDE to XFCE and am so glad i did. The performance of XFCE has gotten so much better in the last few years, and it is now a really great and powerful WM.
One of the niftiest window manager for linux. I like it better than metacity
