Yahoo! Messenger is an advertisement-supported instant messaging client and associated protocol provided by Yahoo!. Yahoo! Messenger is provided free of charge and can be downloaded and used with a generic 'Yahoo! ID&' which also allows access to other Yahoo! services, such as Yahoo! Mail, where users can be automatically notified when they receive new email. Yahoo! also offers PC-PC, PC-Phone and Phone-to-PC service, file transfers, webcam hosting, text messaging service, and chat rooms in various categories.
Other features include the ability to create a chat room automatically, stock price alerts, the ability to send messages to friends (even if they're not online when you are), a Quick Compact mode that hides the Messenger tools to maximize your viewing area, Messenger Themes, and voice chat, which allows you to talk for free to anybody else on the Internet. It also includes Launchcast Radio, Yahoo Games, and Yahoo Audibles. Using a Webcam, you can see who you're chatting with or view the Webcam of any Yahoo member who has granted you access. Version 8.1.0.413 includes unspecified updates.

Classic Yahoo! One of the best chat clients out there!
The best chat client :D
I love this ome...
Use it all the time ;)
When you have better open source options such as Pidgin there is really no reason to use Yahoo Messenger.
The only things that I wish Pidgin had was the picture sharing function in which Yahoo! has and for that feature I'll give it a +1 point. I would also give the chat rooms a point but unfortunately the chat rooms are usually full of spammers (which has been going on for years and Yahoo! hasn't really found a way to defeat it).
the quickest way to get boot
The least favorite IM program that no one is ever on, except foreigners.
great program, i would rather use the Yahoo client insted of Trillan just to get full use and function from it. the one thing is lacks is the ability to group IM windows into one tabbed window.
Pretty good overall except for the following Unsupported Functionality:
1. Voice call encryption
2. PC-Phone (Multiple) Conference calls
3. Answering machine test call.
I find it works just fine, and integrates well with other Yahoo services.
crap. skype and msn much better.
