<text>Nowadays people when don’t have the time to read a lot of books or even blogs, it’s neat to have something like twitter to integrate short messaging service, internet chat, linkblogging and social networking.</text>

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to publish updates (known as tweets) and read other users' updates (also known as tweets).

Twitter now offers 'lists' which allow you to group your followers and/or non-followers into different lists (public or private), so perhaps subjects include family, friends, co-workers, etc.

This is especially useful if you are following thousands of people, and want to see just a certain amount of peoples' tweets without unfollowing thousands of people, or constantly checking various profiles for new updates.

<text>If you think it is not a webapp, go ahead and prove it. I’ve posted some pro-arguments before, you are welcome to provide some counter-arguments to them. If you cannot (and it makes sense that you cannot, if you really have to access there), then I guess it stays.</text>

Leprosorium.ru is truly a gem of Russian Internet. It’s a place where talented people meet, famous and not yet famous. It’s a unique community where users actually select their moderators through weekly elections, which mimic quite closely a real thing. They also have a voting system for posts, which is even more democratic than Digg. At least you can see who is burying your submitions. <text>So? Leprosarium fits the definition to a T. It’s an AJAX application (HTML+JavaScript+backend) that requires a remote connection and relies on a web browser to work.

Leprosarium is not a news site, the only news that you see there are the ones that the users decide to link to inspire discussions. Unlike BoingBoing, which is a blog, Leprosarium is a multiblog, which means a lot of people are allowed to post there. And it’s not a forum at all (never has been).

You can go to LiveJournal.com, get a paid account and get your own blog that will be woven into the blogosphere stream, it will appear in search results, it will be possible to aggregate it by friending mechanism, etc. Alternatively, you can go to Leprosorium.ru, get a paid account and get your own blog ("sub-lepra") that will be woven into the blogosphere stream ("lepra live"), it will appear in the repository ("underground"), and it will be possible to aggregate it by setting the view parameters, etc. The differences are minuscule, really. I know you’ve been thinking that “Lepra is not as it used to be”, but let’s face the facts: technically it’a blogging platform feature-wise.

And that’s only for blogging, don’t make me start on all the other parts of this webapp like live stream, live chat, internal money transfers, gifting sub-service ("Anonymous Santa Claus"), a wiki, etc, etc.</text>

Wikipedia is a free, multilingual encyclopedia project operated by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Its name is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a technology for creating collaborative websites) and encyclopedia. Wikipedia's 10 million articles, about a quarter of which are in English, have been written collaboratively by volunteers around the world, and almost all of its articles can be edited by anyone who can access the Wikipedia website. Launched in 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, it is currently the largest and most popular general reference work on the Internet.
Everybody is free to edit the pages, but on wikipedia they prefer that you make a user account.

iChat is an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), .Mac, ICQ and XMPP client by Apple Inc. for their Mac OS X operating system. Using a Jabber-like protocol and Bonjour for user discovery, it also allows for LAN communication. iChat's AIM support is fully endorsed by AOL, and uses their official implementation of the AIM OSCAR protocol. Using a Jabber transport, iChat users may also integrate their MSN and Yahoo! contacts into the Jabber pane.

You can also use iChat from your menu bar, without even starting the application. When someone sends you a message, the application will launch automaticcally.

Preview is Mac OS X's application for displaying images and Portable Document Format (PDF) documents. Like OS X itself, it comes from NeXT's OPENSTEP operating system.
